Love on the weekend
Sunday evening
Or maybe Monday morning
One of us has to go home
And the other remains alone
In theirs
Monday, there’s an after glow
Memories of the weekend
Still fresh in my mind
Touches, moments, your laugh
Linger in my thoughts
Constantly surfacing
And making me smile
Tuesday, the glow fades
The memories are there
They’re always there
But the feeling is less immediate
Like sounds that are slightly muffled
Or light that is just out of focus
Wednesday, you change
You become a voice
An online presence
My love for you does not change
But the connection is different
It’s almost as if
You’re not entirely real
Thursday, nothing changes
Things have always been
Like they are now
As if you’ve always been
Incredibly important
But out of reach
Though there is a hint
Of what is to come
Friday, the buildup starts
The day starts a little brighter
Time goes a little faster
And yet not nearly fast enough
Because I know that soon
It is Friday evening
I drive to you
An hour of anticipation
Or you come here
While I distract myself
In both cases
Waiting for that moment
A door opens
Stuff is put to the side
And for the first time in a week
I see you again
For a fraction of a second
My brain readjusts
And then I realize
Even if I went to your place
That I am home again.
